The early days of Yettem remind me of the safe environment of Andy Griffith’s Mayberry, only a little more rural (there were no stop signs on the main street through town). I would ride my bike for a few miles though the fields to friends homes to play tavloo (backgammon). Sites used to play tavloo for hours were, our store, and the Ananian, and Menendian homes. It was the days of hide and seek, kick the can, Simon says, baseball, flag football, and the life threatening dangerous playground equipment at the school (merry-go-round, monkey bars, carousel of suspended rings, and the extremely dangerous teeter-totter).
On Saturdays, Holidays, and summer break I would leave the house in the morning, and not get back home until dusk.
